Call for Submissions – Vol. 4, No. 2 What Happened to Vision 2020?

Deadline: 23 February 2020

We are currently accepting submissions for our May/June 2020 issue, in which scholars and experts will critically discuss Vision 2020: The Political Dynamics. In 2009, the Nigerian government put together a plan for Nigeria to become one of the world’s 20 largest economies. With the year 2020 now upon us, we’d like our authors to critically discuss Vision 2020 and whether Nigeria is likely to succeed/fail in meeting its 2020 targets. Taking Vision 2020’s broad domestic and international goals into consideration, we welcome submissions with a focus on Nigeria on any of the following topics:

The Meaning of Vision 2020: what motivated the development of Vision 2020? Why was it important at the time? Have national plans of this nature lost their meaning?

Was Vision 2020 unique? Here, we’d like comparative analysis of Nigeria’s Vision 2020 with either older Nigerian plans or national plans from other regions;

Was Vision 2020 a success or failure? Here, we’d like authors to elaborate on the successes and/or failures, and the political dynamics behind these successes and/or failures;

The outlook on Nigeria: will we meet our Vision 2020 targets? What happens next if we do/do not?

The political significance of Nigeria; the crucial questions here are: 1) are we in a better position now to influence global or regional dynamics than, for instance, a decade ago? 2) Is Nigeria’s political significance likely to increase or diminish over the next decade?

The evolution of Nigeria’s relations with G20 countries. Here, we would like authors to explore Nigeria’s relations with a particular country or set of countries within the context of Vision 2020; and

General analysis of Nigerian/African politics.

We are looking for analytical and engaging essays, lectures, speeches, reading lists and book reviews that, without sacrificing analytical rigour, can serve as authoritative/definitive subject-matter guides to readers that may have limited knowledge on the issue.

We expect submissions in the range of 1,500 to 5,000 words and will be accepting first drafts until Sunday 23 February 2020.

Authors of accepted submissions to this issue will be paid. Read our guidelines on submitting here and our style guide for details on spelling and formatting.
