What books or kinds of books did you read growing up?
Books have been a part of my life as long as I can remember. I am my mother’s first child and she was very interested in making me literate as fast as possible. She would read me all the classic children stories with me on her knee slowly sounding out words. These were mostly fairy tales in books written for children such as Jack and the Bean Stalk and Sleeping Beauty. I became a voracious reader and spent most of my childhood reading anything I could get my hands on. Newspapers, textbooks, car manuals. If it had words, I would read it. My mother would get me books constantly, but I read them so fast, I would have to borrow my friends’ books.
