We are currently accepting submissions for our August-October 2021 issue, in which scholars and experts will critically discuss Revolutions: Leaders and Movements in World History. As many around the world today launch movements to hold their governments accountable and protect citizen freedoms, our authors will take a critical look at some of the world’s most notable examples of historical citizen-led demonstrations. With a focus on Nigeria and other African country experiences, authors will explore the key figures behind historical movements, why certain movements failed, what others were able to achieve and the implications of historical movements on societies today. We welcome submissions that focus on specific countries/leaders and highlight underrepresented voices and underreported stories on any of the following topics:
⎈Anti-colonial and nationalist movements/leaders;
⎈Labour movements and leaders especially within Africa;
⎈Profiles of key historical African leaders, with emphasis on independence/post-colonial leaders including but not limited to: Nnamdi Azikiwe; Steve Biko; Amilcar Cabral; Patrice Lumumba; Robert Mugabe; Winnie Mandela; Kwame Nkrumah; Deolinda Rodrigues; Thomas Sankara; and Wambui Otieno.
⎈ Historical feminist movements and leaders with an emphasis on Black/African leaders;
⎈ Youth-led movements especially within Africa;
⎈Environmental activism, movements and leaders (e.g. Ken Saro-Wiwa, Wangari Maathai), especially within Africa; and
⎈ Other relevant topics concerning revolutions in African and global history.
We are looking for analytical and engaging essays, lectures, speeches, reading lists and book reviews that, without sacrificing analytical rigour, can serve as authoritative/definitive subject-matter guides to readers that may have limited knowledge on the issue.
We expect submissions in the range of 1,500 to 3,500 words and will be accepting first drafts until 23:59 (WAT) Sunday 27 June 2021.
