The Republic is hiring an Accountant who will be responsible for all areas of financial reporting, including analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information for The Republic. This is a great opportunity for a highly organized, detailed, and enthusiastic Accountant to join our team.

As the first accounting hire, you will establish accounting processes and standards. The ideal candidate will have a combination of accounting and business development skills and the capacity to overhaul existing accounting processes in line with global best practices. Depending on experience and milestones, the role could transition into that of Growth Lead or Head of Finance.

Responsibilities

Maintain a robust set of business metrics including but not limited to total sales and total subscriptions, churn and renewal rates;
Prepare monthly journal entries and assist with month-end close process;
Perform month-end balance sheet reconciliations including bank and A/R accounts and investigate/correct items as needed;
Manage monthly staff reimbursements and contributor payments;
Preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financials and analysis including P&L and Balance Sheet;
Record fixed asset purchases, disposals, and depreciation;
Support internal teams with analysis, budgets and forecasts; and
Meet internal and corporate deadlines.

Requirements

⎈ Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related subjects with ICAN/ACCA accounting certifications; 
At least 3 years of post-NYSC general accounting experience;
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
 Experience with QuickBooks;
Extensive understanding of IFRS and GAAP accounting standards;
Strong financial analysis skills;
Ability to work independently;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Highly organized and able to multitask; and
Familiarity with the media industry.

This position is paid and open to candidates based in Lagos. Remuneration for this role is a N350,000-N550,000 monthly gross salary (inclusive of benefits), depending on experience, skills and qualifications.
