We are currently accepting submissions for our August-October 2020 issue, in which scholars and experts will critically discuss Russia & the New Scramble for Africa. The first Russia-Africa Summit took place in Moscow from October 23-24, 2019, with the aim of promoting greater economic development and security on the continent through multilateral cooperation. Therefore, we would like our authors to critically discuss the evolution of Russo-African relations in the context of an ongoing New Scramble for Africa; as well as the potential implications of this ‘new scramble’ on Africa and the wider international system. We welcome submissions with a focus on Nigeria and Africa on any following topics:
⎈ Defining the New Scramble for Africa with focus on Russia’s foreign policy on the continent and the potential implications of increased Russian engagement with Africa, on Africa’s existing relations with the wider world;
⎈ Deep dives into Russia’s interests (perceived and actual) in Africa vis-à-vis China’s engagement with the continent. Analyses of counterterrorism influence and/or election interferences in Nigeria, Madagascar and Zimbabwe are most welcomed;
⎈ The Evolution of Russo-African relations (from Cold War era till present day);
⎈ Africans as agents in the new scramble. Analyses of changing regional political dynamics and/or new pan-Africanisms are most welcomed; and
⎈ Other relevant topics in International Affairs (with special focus on global health).
We are looking for analytical and engaging essays, lectures, speeches, reading lists and book reviews that, without sacrificing analytical rigour, can serve as authoritative/definitive subject-matter guides to readers that may have limited knowledge on the issue.
We expect submissions in the range of 1,500 to 5,000 words and will be accepting first drafts until 23:59 (WAT) Thursday 28th May 2020.
