Call for Submissions – Vol. 3, No. 5 60 Years of Chinua Achebe

Deadline: 25 August 2019

We are currently accepting submissions for our October/November 2019 issue, in which authors will critically discuss 60 Years of Chinua Achebe and the State of African Literature. Submissions with a focus on Nigeria and Africa are now welcome on any of the following topics:

 Chinua Achebe’s (re)imagination of Africa and/or what it means to read Achebe today;

 Defining/locating the ‘African’ in African literature;

 Language and decolonization (e.g. Who owns English?);

 African literature within economies of cultural production;

 Gender, sexuality and cultural disruption through writing;

 Afrofuturism and African futures beyond crisis and dystopia;

 The role of writers in the modern world; and

 Broader historical and/or literary affairs.

We are looking for analytical and engaging essays, lectures, speeches, reading lists and book reviews that, without sacrificing analytical rigour, can serve as authoritative/definitive subject-matter guides to readers that may have limited knowledge on history and/or literature.

We expect submissions in the range of 1,500 to 5,000 words and will be accepting first drafts until Sunday 25 August 2019.

Authors of accepted submissions to this issue will be paid. Read our guidelines on submitting here and our style guide for details on spelling and formatting.

To submit, please upload your submission here (you will need to log in or register to fill the form).
