The Republic is hiring a Senior Associate Editor to join our editorial team. Responsibilities will include: developing digital and print editorial projects focused on Nigerian politics and wider political issues; managing authors and editors; commissioning and managing essays; and working with authors to produce quality writing in line with our style guide.
The Senior Associate Editor position is aimed at graduates who possess:
⎈ A Master’s degree (preferred) and top-tier academic credentials (2.1 minimum undergraduate qualifications);
⎈ At least three years of previous editorial/journalistic/research experience (excluding NYSC);
⎈ Excellent research, writing and reading skills;
⎈ Demonstrable, deep interest in Nigerian and African political issues;
⎈ Proven ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear, accessible way;
⎈ Networking ability and some knowledge about publishing in Nigeria;
⎈ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and WordPress;
⎈ Previous editorial and leadership experience; and
⎈ Ability to work at a fast pace, remotely and independently while part of a team.
Who we’re looking for
At The Republic, everything is political. A Republic editor is keen and highly professional, with a progressive and independent mindset. You know the difference between a topic and a story and can guide a writer in their reporting to bring out the most compelling characters and story elements. You are skilled at structuring both short and longform narratives for maximum impact. You are a deft line editor with a love of elegant writing and zero tolerance for jargon. You will work with Republic editors, writers and freelancers, and you should be someone who derives joy from helping talented writers grow. You should be good at delivering clear, thorough, and empathetic feedback, be a font of ideas, and come with a roster of diverse and talented freelance writers you might commission.

This position is open to only candidates based in Lagos. Remuneration for this role is a N450,000-N600,000 monthly gross salary (inclusive of benefits), depending on skills and qualifications.
