Call for Editorial Interns Join The Republic as an Editorial Intern

The Republic is hiring a paid editorial intern to support our editorial team on key aspects of our editorial-distribution process. For 6 months, this editorial intern will rotate across our editorial and publishing teams building experience in developing print and digital editorial projects, managing authors and editors, participating in research projects, and working with authors to produce quality writing in line with our style guide.

Previous editorial interns at The Republic have either stayed on as editors with The Republic, enrolled in postgraduate programmes, or currently work in a range of fields including media, research and consulting. This highly competitive internship position is aimed at students in their final year of university or have just graduated within the last year with clear media- / research-related ambitions. Our ideal candidate:

is a frequent reader of The Republic;

has top-tier academic credentials (Republic team members have typically graduated top of their class.);

has knowledge of and passion for African history;

is a sharp, analytical writer (editorial or research experience is a plus);

thrives in a fast-paced environment;

⎈ is highly professional;

⎈ has demonstrable online and offline networking skills;

is able to work remotely and independently while part of a team;

possesses excellent communication skills;

has interest in writing on a variety of history-related topics, especially African and Black history; and

Prior experience writing for a news site helps, as do copyediting skills. You should be a voracious reader who is self-motivated and eager to learn.

Familiarity with WordPress, productivity tools such as Slack and Notion, and social media tools like Buffer and Later are a big plus. While some media experience is great, you may find we operate quite differently.

This is a full-time internship position open only to candidates based in Lagos. Our ideal candidate can start as soon as possible, and will work with us for six months with potential to be extended. Remuneration for this role is N150,000 monthly
